What Type of Field Evaluation Can G&M Compliance Provide?

G&M Compliance offers expert field evaluation services for equipment that needs installation-level approval in its intended location of operation.

Field evaluations from G&M Compliance are appropriate for many types of equipment that are installed in the field but do not have an active certification from an approved body or a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) report.

While final approval is always subject to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), G&M Compliance offers onsite field evaluations for the following electrical product groups:

Power distribution equipment, under 600 volts, including switchboards, panelboards, motor control centers, transformers, and switches

Industrial control and utilization equipment, including industrial control panels, factory automation and equipment, industrial process equipment, motor-operated tools, and machinery such as air compressors, pumps, and so forth

Commercial utilization equipment and appliances, including commercial cooking equipment, motor operated commercial cooking equipment, refrigeration and cooling equipment, heating equipment, laundry and dry-cleaning equipment, HVAC units, and fan units

Luminaires (lighting fixtures) and signs, including neon, LED, and messaging-type signs

     Medical and dental equipment

Information technology equipment, including UPS systems and electronic control equipment

     Other similar electrical equipment

G&M Compliance can also perform field evaluations for modified switchgear equipment. In these cases, the original switchgear is typically UL listed, but if bus taps are made on the line or load side of the main circuit breaker, this modification will invalidate the original listing; therefore, a field evaluation can bring this equipment back to full compliance without repeating the entire UL listing process.

The veteran field evaluators at G&M Compliance also have experience with highly complex, custom industrial equipment. Large machinery and industrial equipment that are produced in extremely limited quantities may not be NRTL certified due to the high cost of certification for very few units. An inspector may “red-tag” the equipment when it is moved into a new facility, despite being brand-new, and a field evaluation is a great way to demonstrate the equipment is compliant and get the “red tag” removed. If the equipment passes this thorough evaluation successfully, G&M Compliance can apply a field label to the product. This label demonstrates to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), inspectors, facility managers, contractors, and manufacturers that the equipment will perform according to safety and performance standards.

G&M Compliance has successfully met the applicable requirements of AC354 - IAS Accreditation Criteria for Field Evaluation of Unlisted Electrical Equipment and ISO/IEC Standard 17020:2012 - Conformity assessment - Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection. G&M Compliance meets the expectations set by NFPA 790 - Standard for Competency of Third-Party Field Evaluation Bodies, and follows the best practices outlined in NFPA 791 - Recommended Practice and Procedures for Unlabeled Electrical Equipment Evaluation.
