When exporting your product to Europe, does your product require the CE Mark?

Planning to take your business global or already have business in the European Single Market? If so, you should know that one of the required actions to take is to make sure if any of your products require a CE Mark.

What is a CE Mark?

A CE Mark is a type of certification required for any trade for the European Single Market, consisting of all 28 states of the European Union (EU), including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. It signifies to your customers that your product meets the standard health and safety requirements for consumer purchase.

You may not notice it, but the CE mark can be commonly recognized and found in many of the products we use daily. A majority of laptops, computers, and cell phones all bear an CE Mark, allowing the product to sell in most of Europe.

So as a business owner, how do you know if your product needs a CE Mark?

Well, you should know that the products must fall under the New Approach directives to be required to receive an CE mark. Since the CE certification process can be both complex and potentially costly. It is also illegal to affix a CE Mark on any products that do not fall under the New Approach directives.

Typically, a company will hire a certification company to review, test and certify their products. However, with the constant new approach directives being approved of, it is hard to keep track of which products need CE certification. At G&M Compliance we keep up-to-date to make sure we are qualified to check if any of your products meet the standard and help make the situation as simple and easy as possible.
