Looking to Export Electrical Equipment to Russia? Here’s What You Should Know

The Russian electronics and media industry in 2018 is worth a whopping US $4,159 million. Revenues in the industry are expected to rise. The market segment that holds the largest share is consumer electronics with US $2,942.

With such great numbers, expanding to the Russian soil as an electrical goods manufacturer or provider might be a good idea.

However, before you decide to make the leap, it is very important that you understand certification and conformity requirements. Before electrical devices and equipment are exported to Russia or any of the members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), they have to get EAC certified and marked.

Technical Regulations

The technical regulations apply to many electrical devices and equipment:
  • Low-voltage devices that have an alternating current of 50 to 1,000 volts and a direct current of 75 to 1,500 volts
  • All devices and equipment that can generate electromagnetic interference
  • Permissible quantities have been defined for use of hazardous substances, including mercury, lead, cadmium, etc. in electronic manufacturing processes

Electronic Equipment that Require EAC Certification

Let’s now take a look at the electronic devices that require EAC certification:
  • General electronic appliances (i.e. washing machines, fans, air conditioners, sewing machines, hair dryers, and etc.)
  • Printers, scanners, and photocopy machines
  • Electrical music equipment
  • Video cameras and recorders
  • Radios and CD players
  • and more…

Documents Required

To obtain EAC certification, the regulatory authority would require certain documents. Here are some of them:
  • Instruction manuals
  • Reports of tests
  • Relevant technical documentation
  • Copies of conformity certificates
  • Complete reports from the manufacturing audit of series production
  • Contract from the Russian supplier and other relevant shipping documents

Key Steps for Getting the Russia EAC Mark

Here is what the process, broadly, entails:
  • You analyze the requirements, including the documents
  • Start preparing to get the certification
  • Required testing of equipment in laboratory is carried out
  • After careful evaluation, the EAC certificate and mark is issued

The EAC Mark and Its Requirements

After you get the EAC certification, your product should have an EAC mark. It shows that your product has been tested and verified for quality, reliability and safety.

Here’s how the EAC mark should look like:
  • It should be easily readable
  • Its dimensions should not be less than 5mm
  • It should be monochromatic and the color must contrast with the surface for visibility
  • It should be legible throughout the product’s lifetime
