The Chinese Compulsory Certification (CCC) is a certification –
introduced in 2002 – required by products that are to be imported, sold, or
distributed in China.
Like other certification, it has to do with ensuring the products
match up to regulatory safety and legal standards in order to be circulated in
the market. There around 132 product categories that require this
certification, and only after obtaining it, can they be used for business
purposes in China.
What does the Chinese
Compulsory Certification Process Involve?
In
order for a product to get a Chinese Compulsory Certification, the product in
question needs to be tested in a laboratory in China, and an inspection has to
be carried out by Chinese auditors of the product manufacturers—a factory
audit.
Applying
for the certification involves a number of steps:
- Application documents need to be prepared,
- Various payments are to be made,
- Factory has to be in order for audits.
The
entire process can take anywhere between 5 months to 18 months, if done without
additional aid.
Once
the product receives the CCC, the certification has to be renewed on an annual
basis from there on out, through future yearly factory audits.
Once
the certification is carried out, the manufacturer can carry out his business
in China without unnecessary complications, and gain certification for other
products with relative ease.
What Kind of Products Need CCC Certification?
While
the general criteria for getting the CCC certification for China is for the purposes of conducting
business and sales regarding those products, there are requirements for
specific kinds of products to get certified as well.
The list is quite the extensive one, and includes the likes of electrical
cables, tools, appliances, low-voltage apparatus, and similar devices.
Information Technology equipment, audio/video and lighting apparatus, vehicles,
heavy machinery, and telecommunication equipment also come under this list.
It’s important to keep in mind that despite a product not
technically needing a CCC
certificate, it is a possibility that problems may arise when at
customs. If there is any discrepancy in complying with certification
requirements, it is very likely that goods can incur fines/penalties or be
detained or returned.
